04/22/2022 More like POUTING Thomas, amirite? JOKE-OGRAPHY:I’m told that the name Thomas comes from the ancient Aramaic word for “twin”, while Didymus (Thomas’s alternate name as mentioned by John in the Gospel) comes from the Greek word for “twin”, so essentially Thomas had two names: one Hebrew, and one Greek, which I hear probably wasn’t uncommon for Jews living in Jesus’s time since Greek was such a huge deal. In this cartoon, John comes up with a completely different reason for Thomas’s alternate name, saying it’s because he missed the first appearance of the risen Jesus. John says, “Boy, did he miss a lot!” and emphasizes the “did he miss” part, which sounds like how one might pronounce “Didymus”. John is saying this random segment of a sentence that someone might exclaim when they found out how much Thomas missed out is the reason for his Greek name.
