VidCon 2014 Branding I had the amazing opportunity to contribute to the visual identity for this year’s VidCon, held once again in the Anaheim Convention Centre. There were quite a few felt-tip preliminary sketches of some themes. One included an “VidCon Island,” which had the logo as its own land mass, and another which made the logo into a sort of coat of arms. But the one we settled on was the Tiles. - First sketches of the chosen design. I was given the original VidCon logo as a starting point. From there I created the series of tiles, which would each represent an aspect of the convention. The blue tiles would represent the industry side, and the red ones would focus more on the community side! Each of them had to look like they had been hand painted, so they have a rough edge to them. The two things I created were the poster and the shirt. The shirt was given out to everyone attending, which is absolutely amazing to think that there are potentially 18,000 people who now own that shirt. The tiles, along with the updated logo, were handed over to the guys at VidCon to arrange all other aspects of the convention branding, including the amazing giant banner in front of the convention centre, the passes, directional signage and everything else. Thanks to Hank, Michael, Colin, Julie and countless others for all their hard work on this years VidCon. Sorry I couldn’t make it this year. Perhaps next time. -Jonny Bottom row picture credit: Lex Croucher -- source link
