Turn your nose up at the frivolity of a society driven by it and you’ll still fall for its trap. We have to face it, it’s a biological construct of being human Those of us who are all “into” the natural world, or have an appreciation for design in any realm- art, architecture, fashion, music, etc are suckers for it. Even plants understand this. This is exactly how they survive really. They understand that a combination of shape, color, texture, pattern and fragrance will get their flowers pollinated by pollinators attracted to their “aesthetic beauty” therefore pollinating their blooms and ensuring the next generation. But you ask “I’m a human growing an orchid out of its natural setting does this really apply to me?” °°° Let’s take this Orchid- Neofinetia falcata ‘Oganamaru’. I mounted this on a piece of rough teak about 5 years ago and it’s grown quite well. I have also grown tillandsia usenoides (Spanish moss) around its mount in root system to help with humidity. Why do I like this so much? Is it the slab of wood I chose to grow it on? It would have grown just as well in a plastic basket right?
