Dendobium apphyllum is native to Southeast Asia and another example of a monsoonal climate orchid that requires a dry winter rest to insure springtime flowering °°° It belongs to a small group of related species that have some similar attributes in flower shape and morphology but look very distinct vegetatively. Some refer to it as synonymous with Den. peirardii and Den. cucullatum but I have grown all species in the group and I prefer to keep my tags separate since they’re very easily distinguished even out of bloom!⠀ °°°⠀ This specimen is growing in a 5” plastic pot and is approximately 6’ long. It has grown a few “keikis” (baby plantlets) from it’s previous year’s canes (these are seen lower on the canes). These are an identicle clone of the mother plant and can be removed and repotted on their own once they reach adequate size. I prefer to keep them on for 1 to 2 years of growth and then take them off when the orchid is repotted. Did you notice the leaves of the Plebodium aureum (Blue Star Fern) that has started growing in its pot? These can be a nuisance crowding out the Orchid and using up valuable water and fertilizer and should definitely be removed when given the chance °°°⠀ #orchiddynasty #growsomething #orchids #orchid #flowers #succulents #plants #modern #moderndesign #modernplants #phalaenopsis #design #epiphyte #orchiddynasty #tropical #cactus #orchidculture #plantsofinstagram #plantdesign #interiordesign #dendrobium #fern #orchidees #angrek #angrekk #orchidea #ladyslipper #paphiopedilum #cattleya #orchidsofinstagram (at Orchid Dynasty) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuoPRgYHCUx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8sw5zon3lip6 -- source link
