subversiveyetdivine: datcracker: tanemon: judgmentofparis: “Wrong Century” — Brilliant illustration by artist Tomas Kucerovsky depicting the fate of plus-size beauty in the modern age. Can’t stop reblogging this I think this is maybe why I love studying Art History so much, these woman that were depicted nude, were more often than not, “bigger” ladies, as in they had round hips, chunky thighs, their breasts weren’t always perky, their roll of stomach fat was not painted over or air brushed, it was there and it made them beautiful- why else would they have been painted? Sure some artists do like to paint the “grotesque”, but not throughout the whole history of art! And we praise them and look at these pieces and think Oh wow! What a beautiful woman! How is it society can praise a representation like that and criticize real women? -- source link
