goddessninlil: Back in 2013 I had an idea for a squid monster girl, using a design that fused the mantle into the legs, rather then the tentacles, which instead took the place of the arms. I drew one concept image of Ihzimi and… never drew her again. The design just didn’t work very well and my 2-year anatomy skills didn’t help. Skip forward four years and I finally decided to revisit the idea, prompted in part by a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Her original design was based on the Giant Squid, but this time I went with the Colossal Squid. That meant a bulbous mantle to follow the curve of her hips, shorter arm tentacles to get in the way less, and hooks rather than suckers to drive me insane. The original also had no human arms, but this time I subtracted two tentacles in exchange for them. Lastly, add in four years of improved art skills- The result is a big improvement over the original. Now I’ve found myself adoring her like my other monster girls, and she’s gotten three simpler drawings already, so there’s more of her to come. -- source link
