russingon: @aspecardaweek DAY ONE: GIL-GALAD Upon the death of Turgon in in year 510 of the First Age, EREINION GIL-GALAD ascended to the throne of the Noldor. Strangely, accounts of the former High King’s parentage vary within the histories. By some records, he is said to have been the son of Fingon, and by others the son of Orodreth. Records agree, however, that Gil-galad was a scion of the House of Finwë who reigned throughout the entirety of the Second Age until his death in combat at the hands of Sauron in SA 3441. Throughout this long reign, Gil-galad never wed. Several times this became a matter of political import, wherein councilors and advisors urged their lord to marry that he might produce an heir. The High King flatly refused them all. A king he could be for his people, he said, but the task of being a husband was beyond him. -- source link
