seven-dragons:pumpkinspicelove: S1E10 Someone’s Son, Someone’s DaughterThis final episode of Season 1 is packed full of drama! And the last three minutes of this episode rank as one of my top favorite scenes in the entire show. It is so poignant and beautifully done—Jean finding the house empty and finding Lucien’s letter. The way the scene was done with Lucien’s voice reading the letter as Jean and the others adjust to the news, the pause in the reading of the letter when Matthew comes in to bring them the package, then the letter reading resuming as Mattie and Jean watch Danny put up the sign. And finally back to Jean alone reading the sweet closing of the letter “with much affection.” What a great ending! The music also is perfect, starting when Lucien pulls away in the cab until the end. It complements the scene beautifully.I think the episode starts a little slowly but then the pace takes off when Joy arrives and never stops until the end. The scene in the hospital boardroom is so uncomfortable to watch as Lucien implodes. And yet this is the same Lucien who is so compassionate with the young nurse who is harming herself due to her anxiety. The final 22 minutes of the episode are riveting as Lucien erroneously attacks the character of another surgeon, then Jean unloads on him (for good reasons) and storms away, Lucien opens the letter from Singapore that informs him his wife is dead, Matthew arrives to fire and rehire him, Lucien figures out who has killed the doctor, the murderer comes after Lucien in the morgue, Lucien receives a telegram telling him that his daughter has been found and then the poignant final three minutes featuring Jean. What an episode!Issues addressed:Women’s lack of rights and opportunities New information:Lucien’s wife is deadFun moment: when Lucien wants Jean to jump off the ladder onto the scaleFun fact (which I didn’t notice until someone on tumblr pointed it out): Jean wears the brooch that Lucien gave her for her birthday after he has left for China. (I think I read a good fanfic about that.)Fierce Lucien moment: In the morgue when Gus is trying to kill him Lucien says “the idea of dying doesn’t disturb me.”Other thoughts or favorite moments in this episode? Just looking at those screen caps gives me feels. -- source link
