transcendent-transgressions: In my experience, it is rare to see an intersection of gender identity and darkness as an anthology’s theme. Most projects I see addressing gender are not welcoming of darker topics—for reasons that are often perfectly understandable. However, for me these two are inseparable, and creating art that seems arbitrarily dark to others is an integral part of how I process identity and dysphoria. I frequently represent my experiences with medical transition and my distressingly regular desire to alter my body with my own hands through art that may appear unnecessarily violent or horrific to others. I am grateful for a chance to share art in a space where this union is accepted and celebrated.-Caeles, Visual Artist Transcendent Transgressions: Dark Visions of Transgender Artists is now available for pre-order on Gumroad for $5 USD or more!
