witchyficbindery: Of Your Making & When the Phoenix CriesAn unexpected twist during the final battle has Harry trapped inside a magical artifact with only his greatest enemy for company. The Carcerem will release them, but the requirement for freedom is an impossible one, for neither Harry Potter nor Tom Riddle will ever forgive the other.181,555 words / 622 pages in two booksFic by @purplewitch156Cover design by meThis incredible duology was so much fun to work on! Of Your Making was only my second Tomarry/Harrymort story and I was absolutely blown away by every single part of it! The characterization and the world building specifically are just… I struggled to find a way to make the outside match everything on the inside, but it came together in a way I’m honestly pretty thrilled with! For volume one I ended up going with Japanese book cloth in soft gold and used a gold HTV to surround the Carcerem symbol at the center with runes. On the ceiling was a golden disk. As Harry watched, it began to move. Triangles peeled away, like the petals of a flower. Where the flower’s center should have been was a long, jagged line that ran from one edge of the circle to the other. The line split, forming two half-moons that slowly rotated around each other while the petals gently turned in the opposite direction. Runes of glistening gold spiraled outward across the rest of the ceiling like rings in a pond. Thank you to @purplewitch156 and @clovenhoofbindery for letting me use their Carcerem designs as inspiration! Volume two is a more standard black book cloth, but I wanted to do something equally interesting with the cover and ended up trying to emulate this description:Glowing lines of hot pink, icy blue, indigo and more crossed and circled and sheared. It spread like an enormous spider web across the floor, stretching from corner to corner. Glittering runes ran around the periphery. Finally, I designed the dust jackets from the ground up. I loved the idea of spiral staircases on each, but different enough to fit the atmosphere of their respective book. I’m currently working on the author copies of these (my first try is never as good as I want it to be!) and I will be offering these as commissions starting in June. -- source link
