March 16:  Happy Birthday, Sal! Happy Birthday, Sal! Today you would have turned 8 years old. We remember when we saw you at the pet store on September 15th, 2010. Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel. You were pink with barely any hair at all. We connected immediately. Another couple was going to adopt you but I’m SO glad we did instead. We filled out the papers, picked you up in your infamous “little red kennel,” and took you home.On the drive home, you sat in the very back of the “little red kennel” and ripped up all your tissue then stared at us with huge golden eyes. We tried to think of names for you but none of them would do, until dad said, “Let’s name her Salvation because of what Jesus Christ did for us at Calvary.” It was PERFECT! YOU were perfect! And truly, Sal, I don’t know what we would have done without you. We believe you saved us from many years that could have been dreary and boring without you. When we arrived, we presented you to the others who had stayed home. One wasn’t sure you were a real dog at all, but a robot. But when she picked you up she felt your little heart beating and you stole our hearts forever. You ran all around the house, we fed you peppermint sprinkles (because it was a birthday), and you showed no interest in your dog food at all, only treats. We took lots of pictures with you and at the end of the day, after a movie, you rolled over in your little red kennel and went to sleep. We will never forget that day because on that day on and throughout your seven years with us, you were our best friend and companion. You made us laugh, play, and worry. You made us love more and smile more. You were a ball of light and lit up our worlds  from that day on and forever. Even though you left us too soon at 7 years old, you left us with memories we will never forget. You will always hold first place in our hearts. You are in a class all by yourself. You are beautiful and bright! Even though we miss you terribly we know that you are resting in Heaven, thinking of you always brings a smile to our hearts and faces. You will never be forgotten.
