To be able to feel such joy is true happiness.” Not only is this closing message amazing from the perspective of how wonderful and unifying Sailor Moon and its message are (to the point of Naoko Takeuchi getting fan letters from a tiny island off Madagascar), it really tells a message we all need to hear right now. We only have one planet, one Earth. To be able to live on it and experience life is truly a blessing, the greatest happiness we can know, because life is beautiful. It can be equally cruel and heartbreaking, but the people and things and places we love should always tether us closer to life than what would do us harm. But we should never stop fighting for a better world, one where we can all understand and respect each other. It’s going to take a lot of work and tears and blood until that equality is reached, but I’m an optimist.
