Hussein Chalayan SS02 ‘Medea’ Garments were imagined as representing wishes or curses that had become reality via imaginary voodoo dolls. Hexes were seen as alterations to the garment caused by layering, twisting and cutting away at sections. Some areas were completely missing to suggest the curse only affected a certain area, others cut away to reveal, older or newer, historical layers.In a lecture in 2002 at the Wexner Center for Arts, Ohio, Chalayan remarked “The garment is a ghost of all multiple lives it may have had.
