dingdongyouarewrong: man this post kinda sucks. nothing against op as a person, leave them alone and don’t go bother them etc etc etc. but refusing to engage with the constant omnipresent vehicle of domestic-abuse-related-trial-as-entertainment-content is all well and good (i’m also not fucking watching that shit), but that doesn’t make it stop existing. i’ve seen so many people say they are constantly getting it in their youtube recommendations no matter how many times they click not interested. i myself am constantly seeing it fucking everywhere! it’s not a matter of who you’re following; the algorithms, most certainly spurred on by a PR team working night and day to push this shit to everyone they possibly can, are showing it to everyone! pretending it doesn’t exist does not remedy the fact that this is an actual problem; that this is a symptom of an ongoing problem exacerbated by the true crime boom in the past decade of treating the real lives and trauma of real human beings as entertainment and casting every viewer as an amateur detective. this shit has real consequences!!! going “well, i’m not watching” with the cartoon’s implication seemingly being “…and if you complain about it, it’s your own fault for Seeing It Around” sucks actually! things are still social problems even when you stop looking at them, and this recent line of response to folks critiquing prevalent trends where people just go “lol you must be following the wrong people” doesn’t actually seek to do anything about the fact that those trends still exist and still harm people! You don’t even need to be following people who are talking about it since EVERY social media platform pushes shit it thinks you should look at regardless, and guess what? Right now that is this fucking trial. It’s on my “suggested” feeds for Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, and TikTok, every single day, despite me trying real fucking hard to not engage with any of it at all, and not following anyone who’s posting about it. It’s uncanny and gross. -- source link
