whiteantcrawls:enrique262: no3schofield: did-you-kno: Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela gets struck by lightning more than 200 times every year – that’s more than anywhere else on earth. Source Fve-miles above Lake Maracaibo, storm clouds gather up to 160 nights per year and can last for up to 10 hours. @enrique262 fuck your lake We call it El Relámpago del Catatumbo, the lightning of the Catatumbo, and it’s actually a symbol of the Zulia state, where the lake is located: I’ve been close to the area twice, but it’s very remote, nevertheless it’s a sight to behold! We lived across the lake, between Ciudad Ojeda and Cabimas, and where the lightning is, on the map, is where the red line is. So I never saw it in person, but we would get a similar effect along our part of the lake, during severe storms–multiple strikes continuously, for an hour or more, with thunder so loud and so long that it would rattle the house enough that things would fall off the shelves. Terrifying and beautiful. -- source link
