(reposted from twitter) quick page test using a layout copied from appleseed just testing how rough I can draw a page and make it still tweetable, etc etc some of you will know I tried a webcomic a couple years ago and like shit, man making a comic is hard when you don’t have a financial backing to keep the bills at bay! so I’ve been thinking the approach and format needs to be different I need to, in effect, go for quantity over quality not to an absurd amount, probably a bit more polish than this, but still I need to prepare like, say, 16 pages ahead of time, and then do something like a biweekly drop on twitter of 4 pages and make it short stories I read your criticisms of IDW Sonic I share a lot of them, even, of IDW Sonic and American comics in general the format of 20 pages per month does not work for a decompressed serial writing style like manga, because you wait too long for each drop and I can’t even do 20 pages! so I need to do something like 4 or 8 page stories that I can just tweet either the entire story or an entire chapter of it in one go and with that even if then I take a month to post the next part, or once completed take three months to start the next story, it’ll hopefully work because each part, or chapter, will be more self-contained and thus satisfying enough to read and wait for the next part, rather than being stuck on a cliffhanger for weeks on end this could maybe be combined with patreon- maybe on patreon you get to see the next chapter early, or even just the pages as they get made but to sustain all this, the polish must go down, the pages must be faster and rougher to make, priority given to “convey the story” it’s in a way very similar conditions to the golden age, or to newspaper strips except without anyone paying me for it, I gotta do it for free and then hopefully generate an audience that’ll then monetise it comics is hard man dunno. ideal pipe dream scenario there’s enough people liking it that patreon gets more money, and then after X time, maybe I can do a more polished redraw or pay someone to re-ink or something as a collected version. now that’s a nice pipe dream innit -- source link
