Toadies (not reviewed) + Helmet and Ume at Crystal Ballroom Overall Tuesday night. Couldn’t find one single person willing to go to this show with me. Guess no one was interested in 90’s rock night. This was an all ages show, but the Crystal Ballroom was set up in a fantastic configuration. One of the things I hate about the Crystal is that if you are over 21 and want to have a drink, you have to stand so far away from the stage. At this show, there was a smaller section for the under 21ers and the older peeps could take their drinks all the way up to the stage. I think the only people standing in the all ages area had forgotten to bring their IDs but were still well over 21. Attention Crystal Ballroom balcony people: do not put your coat down on the seat and then go downstairs to listen to the band, then come back up and expect your coat to still be sitting there. You also are not allowed to tell me that is my fault your jackets have been moved because I didn’t watch them. I get paid to rock, not to watch your jackets. Ume Second time seeing this band this year and they keep getting better. They were the main reason I wanted to go to this show and they didn’t disappoint. Lauren (lead guitars and vocals) had her boots double knotted this time. Last show I went to they came untied and she thrashed around so much I thought for sure she would trip… I still love the bassist in this band, he is fantastic. Lauren’s voice sounded a little more thrashed than last time, but it still sounded great. They had a pretty decent turn out for being the first band and played a great set. Helmet Holy testosterone overload. Sweatbands on wrists required by all member of this band. Overheard during second Helmet song: “Oh man this crowd is so fucking mellow. I’m gonna go tear it up.” First (and probably only) drum head to get busted mid song during a show this year. Kick drum had to be replaced by the Toadies. Highlight of the show was the lead singer, Page Hamilton, calling out someone in the front rows for having really stinky farts. And then he talked about the Blazers. Because of the insane amount of testosterone and madness, and I was there alone, I decided to leave after their set. Oh well, I tried. In Conclusion I give this show 12 stars. Ten stars for Ume tearing up the stage again. Two stars for the great configuration at Crystal Ballroom. xoxo A -- source link
