The Book RemedyWords by Jacqueline Lindeberg // Photography by Sydney Ferrara.Books. I must admit that I am obsessed with books. I love everything about them. Their look, design, the feeling I get when I step into a bookstore. They have become more than just a part of my life; they have become a part of who I am.I visit bookstores way too often, and instead of saving money, I take chunks of my paycheck and use that towards books. Everywhere I go, I have to have at least one book with me. Whether it be just going to the market or going to work, my purse is always weighed down with a book or two. If I don’t have a book on me, I feel as if I’m forgetting something very important.Books have been a part of my life ever since I could remember. I recall sitting on the floor of my bedroom when I was a little girl, way past my bedtime, looking through books that were piled up in a tiny, plastic bookshelf. I could read entire books in only a few days.I think what I love most about books is the fact that you can delve into entirely different worlds. After a stressful day or long week, there’s nothing like flopping down on my bed and picking up a book. Over the past couple months, the amount of books I had accumulated made my room almost inhabitable. Books covered half of my bed because there was no more space left. I had to completely fix up my bedroom to store all the books. And I just recently went on a major book haul which has started to cause stacks of books to accumulate all over my floor once again. For me, books are my personal remedy. They take away my stress, my worries, and leave me feeling relaxed. Books are like mini adventures that you can go on. I love the whole idea of leaving reality for just a little bit.One of my favorite things to do, when I have a little bit of free time, is to take a book and head to a coffee shop. It’s so peaceful to sip on a delicious cup of coffee, skim through a book, and let yourself unwind into a story. What is your remedy? Besides books, coffee is also my little go to remedy. The obsession with caffeine has become an addiction. But that’s a story for a different day. I definitely recommend finding a remedy of your own. Whether it be getting coffee, going on a little trip, or maybe doing a little shopping. We all need a remedy for the stressful days and tiresome weeks.Pull a book off a shelf at your school library or visit your town’s library. Take a trip to a bookstore and spend a few dollars on a book that you might find really interesting. Maybe try out a genre you never thought you would read and see how you like it. I never thought I would find myself be obsessed with romance novels, but one day I decided to give a chapter a try and now most of my money goes to those kinds of books.Go ahead and travel to a different, imaginary world, and let yourself be relieved for a while. Surround yourself with something that you can delve into, even if it’s just for a short time. Don’t be afraid to try something new, and to discover what makes you happy.© 2015 Reef Magazine -- source link
