ralphsmotorbike: Ralph Richardson’s first appearance with the National Theatre finally occurred in 1975—triggered by Olivier’s “retirement.” New director Peter Hall invited Ralph to join the company in a role he very much wanted, as Ibsen’s “John Gabriel Borkman” with Peggy Ashcroft and Wendy Hiller. He received glowing reviews, including John Gielgud’s praise for Borkman’s death scene. Alas, it seemed to be another of Ralph’s lost performances because the play was not filmed, but a gold nugget has recently appeared on Internet Archive—Ralph’s version of Borkman that he recorded for BBC radio in 1974! Also in the radio version are Irene Worth and Prunella Scales. https://archive.org/details/HenrikIbsenJohnGabrielBorkman -- source link
