elenyaart: JON SNOW APPRECIATION MONTH 2022 Day 1 → favourite arc: spy beyond the wall ‘ The views atop the hill were bracing, yet it was the ringwall that drew Jon’s eye, the weathered grey stones with their white patches of lichen, their beards of green moss. It was said that the Fist had been a ringfort of the First Men in the Dawn Age. An old place, and strong. ‘ - ACOK Jon’s time beyond The Wall is perhaps the most transformative in his arc. During this time he learns to dismantle the social norms & customs instilled in him at Winterfell. He learns that the freefolk are not so unlike the men and women of the seven kingdoms. He learns their songs, their customs, their tribes, their hopes and dreams. He meets and loves a wildling girl named Ygritte, who brazenly tells him ‘you know nothing.’ And she is right. Whereas he held rigid, unmalleable ideas about honor and duty beforehand, his time with the freefolk challenges those ideas. He is radicalized, and returns to The Wall a changed man. -- source link
