Fort San Domingo (or Hongmao Castle/紅毛城) is the perfect example of Taiwan’s complex history. It was originally constructed as a fort for the Spanish. Then, the Dutch built a new fort on site called Fort Antonio. During the Qing Dynasty, the Chinese government controlled this place. However, the British took over and made it their trade consulate. Taiwan’s government finally retrieved this piece of land from the British in 1980.Danshui (淡水), New Taipei, Taiwan -- source link
