The sunset moth is a day-flying moth native to Madagascar. . Their caterpillars feed on toxic Omphalea plants. The toxins are stored in their bodies, making them unpalatable, giving them defense against predators. . Silk spun from the caterpillars mouth helps them hold on to smooth leaves and climb back to the plant if they fall. This silk has also been known to cause a euphoric high to those who consume it. . Native Malagasy people call it adriandolo or lolonandriana witch translates to “spirit butterfly”. . Photo: Vohimana Reserve Species: Chrysiridia rhipheus . Visit my webpage TheButterflyBabe.com or click the link in my bio to view all of my available art. . All the species that I use are collected from sanctuaries across the US, who educate people about the importance of these creatures to our world, after they have passed away. .
