OSTARA BLESSINGS EVERYONE Today we celebrate the first official day of spring. Here is a brief “Cliff’s Notes” breakdown of the spring equinox. The word equinox comes from the Latin word “aequinoctium” meaning equal night (the day and night of the equinox are *very close* in balance the moment the equinox takes place in your specific area, hence the name). . . For many Pagans, Ostara and the spring equinox represent rebirth, growth, emergence, balance and fertility (this was especially so for our ancestors). . . History shows us that our pagan ancestors would venerate and honor various archetypal deities. More specifically, during spring and the start of planting season, it was the mother-like fertility goddesses and divine feminine archetypal figures that would receive an abundance of attention, as they were viewed as the quintessence of our existence — the givers of life, the bearers of breath and birth. Offerings, rituals, prayers, petitions, and sacrifices would be made to these divine mothers in order to insure a successful and abundant outcome with one’s endeavors, lending great significance to the divine feminine. These traditions were adopted into Wicca and modern Paganism and have become deeply ingrained into the traditional celebratory festivities of the Wheel of the Year. . .
