jjbittenbinders: Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Ashley Eckstein? I thought not. It’s not a story Lucasfilm would tell you. It’s a fan legend. Ashley Eckstein was a voice actress, so talented… she endeared Ahsoka Tano to dudebros who initially found her annoying. Beloved by the fandom, she played the character for over a decade and even channeled her own fandom into a stylish fashion line. Her passion became a pathway to a venture that some consider to be… profitable. Having originated the role, she reprised the character in further series, games, audiobooks, and ultimately had a vocal cameo in The Rise of Skywalker. She considered the role of Ahsoka Tano the part of a lifetime, which, of course, it was. Unfortunately, when bringing the character to live action, Disney wanted a big name actress whose most well known live action role wasn’t as a bully’s sidekick on That’s So Raven. They recast her with alleged violent transphobe Rosario Dawson, who has once tweeted she wanted to play the character. It’s ironic. My friend @jjoelswatch thinks Ahsoka shouldn’t be cast as a white woman, and that they should have cast someone like Tati Gabrielle… and I agree with her, but I personally find Rosario’s casting more offensive than Ashley making the jump to live action ever would have been. -- source link
