theuglyduchess: theearofvangogh:Old Woman at Prayer [1656] Oil on Canvas 134 x 113 cm Nicolaes Maes [1634 - 1693] This painting confronts me. It is not about the sublime, the beautiful, it is about humbleness where the beauty doesnt matter. I also see those kinds of people that are blindly christian. They go to church and they pray and think they are good but then they dont live right and are agressive towards those that are not religious. The woman in the painting is a mixture of both “interpretations” making me feel guilty and threatened at the same time. The second interpretation makes be stand by my beliefs while the second shatters them. -- source link
