We recently debuted a new exhibit entitled “¡Yo Creo en Pancho Clos!” In 1956, Chicano music legend Lalo Guerrero recorded his song “Pancho Claus” to the tune of “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” creating a figure that Chicano and Latino children could identify with. In Lubbock, Pancho Clos has become an endearing West Texas twist on Santa Claus and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. But Pancho Clos’ influence didn’t stop on the South Plains. The version of Pancho in this photo has been performing at Houston’s “Navidad en el Barrio” for decades.(c/o Elizabeth Trovall/Houston Public Media)Read a little more about Pancho Clos over here: https://southwestcollection.wordpress.com/2021/12/16/yo-creo-en-pancho-clos/ -- source link
