I thought it would take longer but I actually sat down and finished the page!Here’s some fun math, we can see that the angle of the shock wave far away from the Asher through the ice is about 55 degrees. Using this information we can calculate the mach speed of the Asher is about 1.2. Given that the speed of sound in bubble free ice is about 3800 m/s, and that air bubbles bring it down because the speed of sound in air is much lower (I can’t find data for how low the speed of sound in ice with bubbles would be, but 3000m/s sounds plausible*) The Asher is traveling at about 3600m/s underwater. Suffice to say, every multicellular living thing in the arctic ocean is very very dead.*I’m happy to just go with rough estimates that are close enough. I try very hard to research things but at some point I just have to make the comic. -- source link
