The medieval St John the Baptist church, NewcastleClose to Central Station. A fairly light and ‘airy’ church, mainly due to the post medieval whitewashing of the walls and the removal of nearly all of the medieval glass (unfortunately). The date of that vandalism is not known, but contrary to what many think, most medieval glass in England and Wales was removed long after the Reformation and the Civil War; in the 18th century, to brighten up the interiors. The bizarre kaleidoscope of glass in the lower photo is of a window assembled in the 19th century from recovered medieval stained glass fragments -- source link
