foxyfandoms:That’s the most unrealistic thing. That the writers assumed a day of lawlessness in a first-world country would result in mass slaughter when the crime rate would be more like5% people causing wanton violence5% people violently beating people that probably deserve it like sex offenders90% people stealing everything not nailed down This… this is literally talked about in the movies. The mass violence isn’t done by the masses. This is literally part of the movies talking about this. Most of the violence not done by groups that are around specifically to create this mass violence do it out of revenge or whatever so there are only really fringe cases. The writers didn’t assume anything you’ve stated. You haven’t been watching the movie. They’ve literally assumed the opposite.Lets say they didn’t do this as you’re saying they haven’t. A movie generally has an area of focus. Like, events in a horror movie are things that probably never happen to most people. But we’re focusing on the events that matter. That’s why the people being affected by the event are the main cast. A typical day for most people doesn’t involve being killed in your dreams, but that’s the events that the movie focus on.Ultimately most people don’t really take part in it. That’s the first movie, a family unwilling being a target when they want to lock themselves away from it. That was the focus. We also didn’t see people committing robberies or destroying a lot of stores because the home was the center of the movie. Here’s a spoiler for the end of the second movie that I’ll just rip from wikipediaThe bad guys in the story are ultimately a facist government that is trying to turn it’s citizens against each other and failing which requires them to send in their own secret death squads to actually make it look like it’s working. Here’s another random bit of info I took from the villains wikiLike, from forty seconds of reading I’ve learned more about these movies than it seems like people who have watched them which is something that mystifies me whenever these movies come up. From what I can tell these messages really aren’t subtle but everyone still seems to think don’t understand or miss the point and instead.. well like above talking about how things actually should be when the people who wrote it already have made that a point.Like, the purge isn’t a masterpiece by any perceivable measure but.. I don’t get why this is something that so many people miss when this is a centerpiece of the series. The purge doesn’t work. That’s the point. -- source link
