fromrusttoroadtrip: Before we lived in a van, before we were together, we used to go on camping trips. We’d drive my beat-up, clapped out old Polo into the middle of nowhere, to any beach or field we could find, and camp.Sometimes it would break down, sometimes it wouldn’t. Sometimes we remembered a tent, sometimes we didn’t. Sometimes we’d park up for the night outside of a church and awaken to find my car in the midst of a funeral procession. Sometimes we’d light a fire and the wind would whip the embers around and around in circles til they burned holes in our tent. These things happen. And somewhere in between cooking skewers on a fire in the evening, reclining in my cramped yet exceptionally comfortable car seats and watching the stars through the windscreen, and somewhere between brewing coffee in the morning and washing our armpits in the sink of a public toilet before we dragged ourselves into uni in the morning, a spark ignited. And from this spark I knew and he knew and we both knew that this was how we wanted to live our lives. Living on the road, living outdoors, with no roots and no phones and no fixed address.Like tethered balloons we cut our cords one by one and allowed ourselves to float up into the sky. To dream, to imagine what life could be like living higher and freer than the birds or the clouds. We didn’t know it and we wouldn’t for quite some time yet, but these were the beginnings of the rest of our lives. #Follow the hashtag #Fromrusttoroadtrip to follow our van conversion project and our travels around Europe! -- source link
