qalbeenaar: ilirpelasgian: johannesbrahms:The Maiden of Kosovo (Косовка девојка) Uroš Predić, 1919 Yall need to stop rebloging this because as I thought the woman represents a Serbian conception of Kosova as the dark maiden for the taking who is abundant in everything from wine to grapes for the weary SerbThank you trischtil for the explanation! This painting depicts the Serb narrative of the Battle of Kosovo - which took place in 1389. The false claim that Kosova is Serbi is rooted in the Serb defeat against the Ottomans at this particular battle. The maiden is supposed to symbolize the homeland. Which brings me to my point: they need to find some other folk story to cherish because Kosova cannot symbolize something it is not. It is not the homeland; it is nothing theirs. -- source link
