After so much of the show was more or less grounded in character drama of (in my opinion, obviously) terrible to decent quality, sparse skirmishes and a generally sombre/serious atmosphere, I gotta say this escalation to aliens with battleships who are now trying to blow up earth feels unnatural. Plus Klaxx princess who is essentially 02′s mom meets the girl and just flicks her away? And is killed/disabled with little fanfare after giving some more exposition… ? It feels rushed in the “oh shit we need to get back to the plot and have a final battle, huh?” way. We just spent so many episodes with the cast sitting around playing house. So many of the characters are completely dropped at this point, like Ichigo and Goro. Some were never even picked up, like Miku(her biggest development is getting some grey hair) or Futoshi who was just a fat joke. Is Alpha going through some kinda development because he’s Zorome on steroids? Why do the rest of the nines even exist when the show did nothing with them? And after doing nothing all show Ikuno gets a confession scene and then fades back into the background. Kokoro wants babby but also huge alien war is suddenly happening so it’s hard to care about morning sickness. 24 episodes. What was the point of the NO SEX arc when APE/VIRM does not do anything about Kokoro’s baby? They explicitly mention they’ve been monitored, which while creepy, I assumed they didn’t want any pregnancies happening because they bothered erasing their memories in the first place. And yet not only is the mindwipe poorly done( look at how long Hiro and 02 knew each other before their brainwashing wore off), they didn’t even check to see if she got pregnant. Unless that’s going to unlock some secret god slayer mecha to explain the convenient incompetence I’m not seeing how this subplot is going to be relevant now that the plot has reached “world ending” levels. 02 saving Hiro rescue arc is enough for the finale, imo. I’ve seen comparisons to gainax works like TTGL but the plot escalations in TTGL didn’t feel weird because that show opened with a pretty awesome scene in space and hinted things would get planetary during it’s first half as well as generally having a wild, hot blooded feel where crazy things are always happening. Kill la Kill was similar, but for DiTF this feels out of the left field. -- source link
