Man it’s been some time since I did one of these reviews. The STA-2 tier 8 Japanese medium tank plays closely to its non premium cousin, the STA-1. The tank’s 90mm gun has a penetrating power of 185mm of pen, fairly average for tier 8 mediums with the exception of the T-34-3, M4A1 Revalorise, T-34-2 (mounting the 122mm), and the Obj. 416. However this tank can fire both AP and HEAT rounds, making it quite deadly to any higher tier opponents. Its armor is very thin, the thickest being located at the gun mantle so don’t expect any reliable ricochets or lucky bounces often. Mobility of the tank is very good though, due to the thin armor and decent power-to-weight ratio of 14.51 hp/t. In the game, the tank should be played as a support medium since its gun accuracy of 0.37 is not enough to consistently snipe opponents from long range. It should also be noted that the STA-2 is an excellent tank to keep an enemy tracked due to a good rate of fire of 8.45 rounds per minute. With the right equipment and a fully trained crew, the gun handling of the tank significantly improves to allow for more aggressive plays, similar to the M26 Pershing and T-44. In my opinion, this tank feels just as reliable and flexible as the M26 Pershing and T-44, some of my favorite tanks. And considering that most tanks in the Japanese tech tree consist of medium tanks, the STA-2 is a good choice to help train tank crews. (Edit: The STA-2 recently got a buff to its AP penetration to 212mm!) -- source link
