The name for this genus of mushrooms is Canthaellus which comes from the greek word “cantharus” that is a goblet like cup with a similar basic shape. You’ll probably be more likely to know their common name: Chanterelles! They’re one of a edible mushroom forager’s favorite finds but are not to be confused with their poisonous look-a-like: the jack o’lantern mushroom. Chanterelles are a mycorrhizal fungi, meaning that they form symbiotic relationships with plants to grow, which makes them difficult to cultivate outside of their wild environments.
