(Soul Reaver story)Continuing with the vampire clans that conquered the lands of “Nosgoth” come the “Zephonim” sons of Lieutenant “Zephon”, When the clans divided by territory Zephon himself and his sons took the Silenced Cathedral as his lair. This unusual choice was a direct order from the Vampire King “Kain” who decreed to dismantle the Cathedral and drive out the vampire hunters hidden behind its walls. (By creating their nests in the Cathedral it was impossible for the humans to reconquer the secret weapon that had been silenced by the invaders.)Being expert climbers who assaulted the watchmen of the Cathedral by surprise, the “Zephonim” evolved with a combination of vampires-arachnids that gave them thinner and stretched limbs that allowed them great maneuverability when climbing walls horizontally or vertically, descending from the darkness of their hiding place to stealthily stalk their unwary prey. (The trapped humans were wrapped in a net and hung on the ceilings and walls like blood sacks to feed slowly.) Cruel to torture their victims, the vampires “Zephonim” achieved their metamorphosis through rituals of resistance, alchemical engineering, and the selection of converted human candidates for their clan.
