Also the whole “God can forgive your sins directly if you can’t get to a priest” has always been a thing in emergencies but God WANTS us to go to priests to confess our sins and be forgiven of them. That’s the mechanism He gave us to do so. For many reasons but among them to remind us that despite what modern sects would have us believe Christianity was never meant to be solely between an individual and the voice in their head they think is God, it was always meant to be communal, physical, and sacramental.^^ Your sin affects your community. The Priest isn’t only there to forgive you in the place of Christ, but to also reconcile you to your community on their behalf. -- source link
