bagelings: When Julian was 14 to 15 and his friend Joy hadn’t yet been shipped off to a higher-octane boarding school overseas, he used to take the train up to New York and bust her out of prep school so they could go (in his terms) “Caulfielding.” This means, in this case: 1) bumming cigarettes from hippies; 2) pretending to be runaways to try and convince said hippies they were cool; and 3) sneaking into adult bookstores in the Village and poring over dirty magazines until the leatherman who owned the place noticed them and chased them out. -- source link
