I think the best thing about this series and the comics is the knowledge that the creator, Alan Moore, thinks that Rorschach is the bad guy.“I wanted to kind of make this like, ‘Yeah, this is what Batman would be in the real world’. But I had forgotten that actually to a lot of comic fans, that smelling, not having a girlfriend—these are actually kind of heroic! So actually, sort of, Rorschach became the most popular character in Watchmen. I meant him to be a bad example. But I have people come up to me in the street saying, “I am Rorschach! That is my story!’ And I’ll be thinking: ‘Yeah, great, can you just keep away from me, never come anywhere near me again as long as I live’?” - Alan MooreIt’s forever beautiful to know that Rorschach, the man who gave up his life for his principles, is supposed to be a mockery, and that we are supposed to side with the guy who murdered millions for a false unity. Oh yeah, Moore being salty about that makes it 1000% better. It also works for V for Vendetta considering the current state of the world and the virus in that story. But we were meant to believe only a right-wing government would oppress its people under those circumstances.Alan Moore is forever regretting the worlds he creates because he thinks his mockeries are wrong and awesome, while his critiques land back on his own beliefs. The only time I will ever compare Joss Whedon to Alan Moore is that they both create social commentary that accidentally exposes their side as the bad guys. But yeah I hated Watchmen when I first read it because it’s 100% wrong in its morals. Rorschach is the only good guy in the whole story. And Dr Manhattan is the villain. But it just goes to show how much these people fantasize about some all powerful benevolent dictator forcing unity through deceit and violence, while anyone advocating for individuality and personal responsibility are the “bad guys”.Also, Alan Moore making fun of anyone elses hygiene is hilarious. Firefly was specifically about the ‘people history stepped on’. If you had told me a liberal dude like Joss would create a story about the confederates who lost the Civil War IN SPACE! and makes some of them the protagonists and the Union the bad guys, I wouldn’t believe you. -- source link
