Despite my super chill or extra hype vibe, my spirit is a bit dampened by all of these cancellations. I’ve read things like “get over it,” “it’s only affecting XX group” and “this is not a time to make jokes.” Actually, you can feel disappointment over changes in your schedule. It is not “just affecting” one group; we’re all going through something mentally, physically, emotionally or financially from this pandemic. And humor is probably ther most normal thing that the world need during these tense times. We are not allowed to tell others how to process something; we are in control of ourselves. Most of us know by know that this is serious; it will probably get worse before it improves. Let’s not lose our humanity through it all. If your running buddy wants to cry about 16 weeks feeling like a waste, let them have their moment; remind them of the dope things that can do to utilize that training. If your immunocompromised friend is nervous, it’s their right. If you’re a freelancer trying to figure out ends meet, we are going to perservere somehow – but it’s okay to crumble for five minutes; I did a hour ago. And to those who feel nothing, that’s okay too. Nobody should demand you to convey emotions that aren’t there. If there’s any time that we shouldn’t censor people from their own personal truths, it’s right now. Whatever happens, don’t take out frustrations on another. That race director who cancelled the race is probably complying with safety standards. The post office worker who didn’t say hello is probably tense. A person who coughed on a crowded subway don’t deserve to be attacked or ridiculed. That cashier in line that you’re rushing is possibly exhausted as hell. Hard to say during tense time but please be easy. Personally I lost 5 jobs in 48 hours, a quarter of my race schedule is gone, sad about possibly losing traction of my progress if things continue to change and having an immunocompromised family makes you a bit disheveled. During this social distancing, let’s connect together in a grassroots way. Create a virtual race, read some books and call someone. Through tragedy, there’s room for triumph. @ikorlabs https://www.instagram.com/p/B9rSC3wHH5r/?igshid=1a13d7z0jwg7z -- source link
