ruffboijuliaburnsides:liberalsarecool:These programs save lives.Hi yeah I work in the world of medicaid in my state. I’m not going more specific bc y’know. REASONS AND PRIVACY AND SHIT but the point is that I have seen the information of the people applying for medicaid. And the people who are getting APPROVED for medicaid, which is not as many as I wish were getting approved. You know who they are?Parents applying to get coverage for their kids so they can have healthcare. Kids in the foster system. People who can’t work and are in the middle of the long slog to get Disability income, but could have months or LITERAL YEARS before the Social Security Administration finishes processing their application. People who are in end stage cancer or other diseases. The elderly who are on a hugely limited budget to the point that even their relatively low medicare premiums are too much out of their social security check to afford. You know who isn’t getting approved, and who often isn’t even trying to apply? “lazy bums”But you know what? EVEN IF EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO GOT APPROVED FOR MEDICAID WAS A LAZY BUM, I’d still be glad they had access to medicaid. Because healthcare should be a goddamn RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE. I don’t care if you’re the laziest most entitled morally empty person on the planet: you still deserve to have access to healthcare. And if you disagree with me, you’re a horrifying person, and I hope that YOU have access to healthcare, too. -- source link
