I took the bullet train to Kyoto, which is hands down the best way I’ve ever gone from point A to point B. The Japanese bullet trains are world renowned, and since I’m a huge dork I had been really looking forward to taking them. They go up to 200 miles per hour, and one leaves for Kyoto every 10 minutes even on Sundays (on weekdays they can leave as often as once every 5 minutes). More about the Shinkansen system. And oh man, it was remarkably fast. The trip took just over two hours, to go 228 miles. To give you some perspective, that’s about 30 miles more than the distance between New York and Boston. It was also really great to see so much of the Japanese countryside. It really is a gorgeous country—I want to come back and visit some of the more rural areas some time. Blog about Japan?
