flammentanz: flammentanz: Ralph Richardson as Lord Mere in “The Divorce of Lady X” (1938) Ralph Richardson plays a wonderfully eccentric character which shares some similarities to the famous Major Hammond in “Q Planes” that he played a year later. This very entertaining film is full of amusing scenes with Ralph Richardson. In one of them he peeks through the keyhole of his own appartement hoping that someone is opening the door for him because he hasn’t a key. In this very moment his wife opens the door and they nearly collide with each other. After he unjustly blamed her for adultery she quasi throws him out of their home in pieces by tossing his hat, gloves and umbrella at him. His reaction to her outburst of anger is just delightful. In another scene the adorable eccentric is fully drunk, returns home and goes to bed: fully dressed in hat and suit with his umbrella in his hand. It’s notable that Ralph Richardson doesn’t smoke his usual pipe but cigars. Ralph Richardson (19 December 1902 – 10 October 1983) -- source link
