HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR. SEUSS!57th Street Books and I were blessed with the privilege of honoring a great man’s birthday today. It was wonderful walking down 57th street with a bouquet of balloons for our favorite Dr. Seuss after a local neighbor stopped me to ask who’s birthday was it, and I exclaimed “Dr Seuss!” I got a thumbs up and cheers every time I gave the answer. I believe I even got a fist in the air (John Bender would have been proud.. lol).To kick off the great man’s birthday, streamers were hung and the table was set with tasty morsels for our miniature mixer. The day began with lighting a candle and singing happy birthday to the Dr. After which, we had snacks and shared stories by the man of the hour. Come to find out, quite a few little ones love Fox in Socks and named it as their favorite Dr. Seuss book. Myself and other adults agreed that Fox in Socks can be among the hardest to read aloud if you don’t watch out. I think that this may be why tiny humans love to hear it read. You cannot help looking crazy as you read lines like: “And here’s a new trick, Mr Knox… Socks on chicks and chicks on fox. Fox on clocks on bricks and blocks Bricks and blocks on knox on box.”I dare you to try to keep a straight face through that, Sir! LOL!! Heck I dare you to make it through the whole book and not trip up at some point. But that is the fun of it. Young people love to see their parents read his works. I have seen even the most nervous parents come out looking like Kevin Hart or Jerry Lewis at the end of the tale. Please, please read to your children. The magic is in the shared moment.Green Eggs And Ham, What Was I Afraid Of, and Dr. Seuss’ ABC’s was on the storytime menu. We had a blast, laughing and pointing out the craziness of each story. As for me, I must say that the Doc’s book Sneetches and Other Stories has always been my favorite. The story about the Star Belly Sneetches with stars upon thars, and the Plain Belly sneetches with none upon thars has always been a story that stayed nestled in my heart. It’s a warning tale, as well as one of redemption. Happy Birthday Dr Seuss, the Dr. of Picture book Poetry!LoveThe Tiny humans of 57th Street books.. and Ms. Dominique -- source link
