caffeinatedcorvid: Horde x Western Art 4/10: Constructivism (I realize I’m kinda pushing the boundaries of “Western” in this case shhhhh) Inspired by these posters by Dmitry Moor. Constructivism was the backbone of Russian design post-WWI. The prevailing idea of any art was that it was to serve a public purpose, which in visual arts included propaganda posters. As such the style is bold and graphic to easily communicate its intended message, while still retaining a sense of realism. Hordak’s backstory sequence utilizes a similar graphic style, and due to his upbringing he would most likely judge artwork in terms of functionality and usefulness (see: the anti-princess posters in the Fright Zone) rather than as decoration, introspection, or enjoyment for its own sake. I’ve depicted him here in his season 4 armor, which is when he finally re-enters the battlefield as a foot soldier rather than a “lord”. EDIT: Thank you to @cirusthecitrus for graciously correcting my Russian! -- source link
