emberv: “Time is running out.” Ignis, standing tall and proud in his black uniform in front of the group of new recruits scattered around a low-lit dinner hall made sure his voice got carried to each and every single person there. Time was a precious thing, and it was slipping down the walls of the Resistance like grains of sand in an hourglass. “Today, we’re putting you through a series of tests to determine your skills. Each one of you is here for a reason and is a necessary part in salvaging the remains of our empire.” Character Introduction ☼ Arkadius Ma’lek ☼ By the time Arkadius Ma’lek had turned seventeen, he had already been through hell. At age ten, his father and sister were murdered in a raid on their village by the White Soldiers, a Royal figher force which hunted down people who refused to accept the Non Nocere serum. Since then, on top of having to take care of himself, he had to learn how to avoid punches and hard objects carelessly thrown at him by his mother; a woman who blamed him for the death of her husband and daughter. He had raised himself with the help of his neighbors, none of which knew about the fragile state his mother was in. It was for the best; if they had known, they would have taken her away from him too. Arkadius had managed to put himself through all five years of the Academy of Arts by working two part time jobs and doing small things for his neighborhood - fixing roofs or walls or boats. If he had know of the talents and abilities laying just below his skin, below his fingertips, he wouldn’t have had to be worried about anything. By the time Arkadius discovered what he was able to do, it was too late to pay for his school or take care of his mother, but it was just on time for him to meet the leader of the Resistance. “This is my team,” he spread out his arms on each side and, as if practiced, the four other, two on either side of him, stepped forward to stand in an equal line. He was a natural leader, someone who knew when to pull his punches and when to cross the borders, but also when to set the boundaries and bring order. “ His fingertips burned in that familiar way when his power came to play, when the paper under his skin was so much more than just paper and the ink was alive and pulsing like a heartbeat.” non nocere taglist ► @sharraus @quenvicky @aziz-writes @nemowritesstuff @funky-little-dude ◄ ask to be added / removed -- source link
