WIG MAKING!! At first I tried to make a wig for Tootega from those synthetic hair things that you get in the supermarket but it was pretty apparent that I wasn’t going to be able to get the desired effect. The synthetic stuff was really plastic looking and frizzed if you so much as looked at it. So I did a bit of research and found that doll-makers like to use Tibetan Lambswool for doll wigs. It’s gorgeous stuff, really fine and has a natural curl in the ends that’s just perfect for Tootega. Also, because it’s a natural product it means you can use normal hair products on it like dye and wax and all that stuff. I was a bit concerned about the ethics of it but apparently it’s a by-product of a meat industry rather than a fur trade so seems okay. I ordered a dark brown sample but was sent this really light reddish colour so I had to get a box of hair dye and darken it at home! I then used a basic wig pattern to cut it out and glued the seams together so that it fit snugly on the curve of the puppet’s head. I then glued it to the head in two sections for maximum oomph!!! She’s got a LOT of hair and I LOVE IT! -- source link
