feedmestuff: Statue of Athena, showing Medusa, her integrated shadow, on her breastplate. Quick summary of the myth: Athena (goddess of intellectual wisdom) rejects beautiful Medusa, and casts her out of her temple. In doing so she created a monster, who could turn people’s body to stone. (Significance: When our mind rejects our body, our bodies turn to stone. They become rigid, petrified, the death of us.) Later, Athena sends Perseus (representing active masculine spirit) to retrieve Medusa’s head, which Athena promptly incorporates into her breastplate. She makes it a part of her, to potent effect. The incorporated shadow, which was previously rejected, has now become her protector. This is what integration of the shadow does for a person. We become stronger, wiser, and more whole. -- source link
