businesstiramisu: mapsontheweb: Actual distance between two points and how it looks on commonly used map drawn using Mercator projection. you don’t see as dramatic of distortion in the southern half because 1) less land down there (and no one knows what Tierra del Feugo is supposed to look like anyways) 2) the bottom third of the southern hemisphere is cut off – the bottom of the map is about the same latitude South as the southern end of the red line across Russia. You do see massive distortion of Antarctica (unless you leave it off the map entirely), but it has no permanent human population so there’s no one to care strongly about this. -- source link
