garbage-empress:memesforages: Ban No Knock Warrants This isn’t about no knock warrants specifically, but I had an experience about 10 years ago where the police were kicking in my apartment door while searching for a suspect I had nothing to do with. I didn’t hear the man identify himself as a police officer (maybe he did initially, I had headphones on) but all I heard was a strange man shouting while kicking the door. I was in the process of grabbing a kitchen knife to defend myself from who I thought was a random home intruder, when I heard his radio go off and went “oh that’s a fucking cop.” I opened the door just before it was kicked open fully. He had his gun drawn and pointed at me. If I didn’t hear his radio go off there’s a good chance I would have been brandishing a knife at a police officer, I’d say there’s about a 50/50 chance I would have been shot. Anyway, my point is it’s completely rational to assume a person forcing their way into your home is somebody trying to kill you, and that’s why “no-knock” warrants are so dangerous. They’re also mostly used for drugs - primarily marijuana, and I want anyone who defends them to question whether they think the lives of not only the suspects, but also bystanders, are worth putting in the balance because some weed might be flushed down the toilet. -- source link
