“It’s not Jazz, it’s Black Classical Music.” - Nina Simone I love this. We have a horrible habit of ignoring the grandmothers and grandfathers of true American artistry, most of whom are Black. It’s more than just singers and songwriters, but dancers, actresses, poets, and photographers. As non-Black POCs, it’s imperative that we remind ourselves of this because so often, we drink from the fountain of Blackness to stand out or we stain the waters to “fit in.” -- source link
